Lithgow will play Harold Harper, who is described as “intelligent and tough with deep reservoirs of compassion and ruthlessness, Harper is called back to service by the FBI after suffering a terrible personal loss. He has a complicated past with rogue fugitive Chase (Bridges), which makes him uniquely suited for hunting him down.

Here is the description of the series from FX:

Based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Thomas Perry, “The Old Man” centers on “Dan Chase” (Bridges) who absconded from the CIA decades ago and has been living off the grid since. When an assassin arrives and tries to take Chase out, the old operative learns that to ensure his future he now must reconcile his past.

“The Old Man” is from the team behind Starz’s “Black Sails.” Jon Steinberg and Robert Levine will write the script and executive produce alongside Dan Shotz. Bridges is an executive producer along with Warren Littlefield and David Schiff.

Along with “Far From Home,” Watts also co-wrote and directed the first “Spiderman” film under the now-defunct Sony-Marvel Studios partnership, “Spiderman: Homecoming” in 2017.
