Colombian American actor, comedian and television producer John Leguizamo is in Phoenix this week filming the second season of the MSNBC series “Leguizamo Does America.”

Leguizamo will visit different points across the city to capture diverse Latino stories, an MSNBC spokesperson confirmed to La Voz Arizona/The Arizona Republic.

In the series that premiered almost a year ago, Leguizamo, a native of Bogota, Colombia, travels through different U.S. cities sharing stories of members of the vibrant and diverse Latino community.

The documentary series, produced by NBC News Studios and MSNBC Films, is a mix of political takes, cultural highlights and historic narratives about Latinos hosted by Leguizamo. During the first season that premiered in April 2023, the actor immersed himself in Latino communities in New York, Miami, Washington D.C., Chicago, Puerto Rico and Los Angeles.

Phoenix will be one of six cities championed in the second season. The premiere date has yet to be announced.

The border state of Arizona, which shares a desert ecosystem with Sonora, Mexico, and a nearly 400-mile border, is home to a rapidly growing Latino population.

Of the 7.4 million residents in the state, 2.3 million, or 33%, identify as Latino or Hispanic. This group makes up nearly 43% of the 1.6 million people in Phoenix, Arizona's largest city.

The vast majority of Latinos residing in Arizona are of Mexican origin. About 2 million Latinos in Arizona are of Mexican origin. Puerto Ricans are the second largest Hispanic or Latino group in Arizona, followed by Spaniards, Guatemalans, Salvadorans and Cubans.

It's no surprise why Leguizamo chose Phoenix for the second season.
