Sexiest Man Alive 2019
People's Sexiest Man Alive was announced on Tuesday night, with singer John Legend taking home the title for 2019. The EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) winner opened up about his "awkward years" -- classic Sexiest Man MO -- and how it took him a while to grow into himself.
"Oh yes, I had an awkward phase. I was two years younger than my classmates, so I get to high school, everyone else is around 14 and I’m 12. And I get to college, everyone else is around 18 and I’m 16. I was always like less mature, less at ease socially. I had plenty of awkward times."
Add It To The EGOT
Legend also opened up about how he tried for years to write songs for girls, and then he eventually nailed it with "All Of Me" about his wife, Chrissy Teigen.
"I tried, I’d say around 12 or so to start writing songs for girls I liked. It wasn’t extremely effective at age 12 but I got better at it. I eventually wrote 'All of Me.' It’s got about two billion views now."
Just a casual two billion views. Legend also mentioned that he feels sexier now at 40 than he did as a younger man.
"I think you grow into being comfortable in your own skin. Most of your teenage years, into your 20s, you’re still figuring out who you are, how you present yourself to the world…eventually I think you get more at ease with yourself. I know who I am. Maturity helps with that."
Chrissy Teigen Is Having The Best Time
Legend had plenty of nice things to say about Teigen as well.
"She always looks amazing. And I get to stand next to her a lot and I don’t want to be a huge let down…so I try to dress well enough to be worthy of being next to my wife."
Teigen, being the queen of social media, had plenty to say about John's reign as Sexiest Man Alive, and she's clearly having a great time with it. Before it was announced, she tweeted out "I have big news and it’s killing me I can’t say it and it’s not a baby."
After the "big news" broke, she changed her Twitter bio to read "currently sleeping with people's sexiest man alive."
A Good Drag To Flirt Ratio
Teigen and Legend seem to have a good drag to flirt ratio in their relationship, and this announcement was like Christmas morning for Teigen. She tweeted "I cannot WAIT for people to get mad about John being sexiest man alive. it's my new Starbucks holiday cup." She followed up with "no don't send it to me please. I like to see these people naturally, in the wild."
She also posted a hilarious video informing their daughter Luna about her dad's latest accomplishment, and she's less than impressed.
Hilariously Supportive
Legend posted a picture on Twitter of himself as a dorky young man compared to 2018's Sexiest Man Alive Idris Elba, writing:
" 1995 John would be very perplexed to be following 2018@IdrisElba as #SexiestManAlive. Hell, 2019 John is about as equally perplexed but thank you @People for finding me sexy. I'll take it 🤓"
In classic Teigen fashion, she responded in a way that was a funny drag while still ultimately being supportive.
