John Legend Casually Reveals the Precise Moment He Wanted to Marry Chrissy Teigen

Once again, we need to talk about how precious Chrissy Teigen and John Legend are together. Because honestly, #goals. Today, in reasons they’re forever our favorite Hollywood couple, Legend low-key dropped into the comment feed on Teigen’s latest Instagram throwback photo to reveal the exact moment he knew he wanted to make her his wife. Yep, you can go ahead and say it: awww. Save some of that swooning, though — you’re going to need it when you hear what Legend actually wrote.
So, here’s how this romantic revelation came to be. Teigen took to Instagram on Wednesday night to share a flashback snapshot of her modeling days. “2011. Ed Hardy fashion show. Almost positive Jon Gosselin sat front row. I was star struck,” Teigen captioned the photo. It didn’t take long for the main John in her life to weigh in with his memories of that time in Teigen’s career (and their relationship). “That was the year I proposed to you,” he recalled. “After seeing you in the Ed Hardy show, I was convinced you were the woman I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.”

Cue hearts melting all over Teigen’s Instagram feed, naturally. Gushed one fan, “I’m not crying, you are. You guys are the best!” Said another, “I love the way you love her. It makes me feel love.”

Granted, there does seem to be some confusion over when the photo Teigen shared was taken and how it aligns with their proposal timeframe. But, for real, we’re not getting bogged down with those kinds of quandaries and ruining this beautiful moment. Legend shared the behind-the-scenes story of a precious milestone in the pair’s history, and we’ll take it however we can get it.
As for Teigen, she knew Legend was the one a little earlier in their love story. In 2016, she shared a nostalgic photo of a trip abroad the pair took. And, in doing so, she shared her own “a-ha!” moment.
“Back to where it all began — Lake Como, Italy — first came here in 2007. A boat tour guide took us to a little spot on the lake and told us to make a wish. I asked for this to be the man I marry and have children with,” she recounted, playfully adding, “I think John asked for the most perfect bite of cacio e pepe. Both came true, and here we are.”
Yep, they’re officially the cutest.
