John Legend, a man of notable subdued demeanor, has the ability to project a feeling of zen onto whatever he wishes. Last time, it was Kanye's tweets; this time, it was a full Gucci outfit. He wore the brand head to toe, and in a way only Legend can. While Gucci's other muses, Jared Leto and Harry Styles, might lean into the over-the-top aesthetic of the brand, Legend brings a certain calm to everything. Observe:

On the red carpet, Legend kept to the dressed-up code, wearing a navy two-button, notch-lapel jacket a white cotton dress shirt with a bee-and-star print, a cream cotton track pant, and white grosgrain bow tie. First of all, it takes a certain level of security in your personal style to be able to wear bold pieces from a single brand head to toe. This kind of outfit versus, say, a full suit, can often look a little try-hard. That's especially true when the outfit consists of mixing two of the brand's signature designs-double Gs and bumblebees-something that could easily turn a guy into a walking advertisement.

But not for Legend, of course. Instead, he makes the whole thing feel cool and relaxed-a difficualt feat to accomplish when you're wearing white pants, a navy jacket, and a bow tie. In nearly every other situation, that combination of clothing is one of the preppiest you can dream up. And yet, the combination of Gucci's design and Legend's intense likability make it all feel easygoing.

Partly, it comes down to fit. Everything is well tailored but not too tight, which wards off any Insta-bro connotations. There's also the grooming. He's got nary a hair out of place, but just a little scruff. Like the outfit, he's walking the line between pulled-together and laid-back.

Of course, Legend didn't stop at just one outfit. He also wore another complete Gucci 'fit to perform on stage. This one was all shades of white: a tee, jeans, sneakers, and a cream leather jacket. As Legend knows, there's nothing like an entirely monochromatic outfit to make your look feel purposeful. (Bonus: It actually takes the least amount of thought to put together.) And if you're in the market for a new riff on a biker jacket, take a page from Gucci's book and try an embellished off-white one. And wear it like Legend.
