John Krasinski on his new film 'IF' and the power of imagination

CHICAGO - John Krasinski is stepping behind the camera once again to direct the new family film "IF," hitting theaters this weekend.

The actor, who made the transition to directing films after leaving his hit series "The Office," sat down with FOX 32 Entertainment Reporter Jake Hamilton to discuss the film, which follows a child discovering "imaginary friends" that exist all around us. The actor compared having an imaginary friend to an actor creating a character.

"I think the process of creating at all is something I learned as a kid," Krasinski said, "and I think that we’re asked to phase that out of lives as adults and we have to take our life more seriously."

The writer/director added "I think that this process has taught me to do the exact opposite. To create as much as you can, to get out this creative energy any way you can."

"IF" opens in theaters on Friday.
