John Krasinski’s IF is tracking to make around $40 million at the box office during its opening weekend.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, IF, which is directed by Krasinski, is currently tracking to make between $38 million to $42 million when it opens in theaters in May 2024. “And based on raw data, some box office pundits believe it has a shot at $45 million to $50 million,” The Hollywood Reporter’s article states.

It’s unclear how large of a budget IF has. The last movie that Krasinski directed, 2020’s A Quiet Place Part II, opened to $50.2 million and ended up making $297.4 million at the global box office. The first Quiet Place movie, also directed by Krasinski, also made $50.2 million during its opening weekend but went on to make $341 at the global box office.

What is John Krasinski’s IF about?

“A young girl named Bea, who has been going through a troubling experience in her life, unexpectedly gains the ability to see people’s imaginary friends (referred to as “IFs” for short) who have been abandoned by the kids they helped,” the synopsis for the film reads. “Bea then discovers that her neighbor, Cal, has the same ability. Together they join forces to reunite the IFs with their former kids.”

IF stars Cailey Fleming, Ryan Reynolds, Krasinski, Fiona Shaw, Alan Kim, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Bobby Moynihan.

The voice cast for the movie also includes Steve Carell, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Louis Gossett Jr., Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Maya Rudolph, Jon Stewart, Sam Rockwell, Sebastian Maniscalco, Christopher Meloni, Richard Jenkins, Awkwafina, Blake Lively, George Clooney, Matthew Rhys, Bradley Cooper, Amy Schumer, Keegan-Michael Key, and Vince Vaughn.

The film is produced by Krasinski, Allyson Seeger, and Andrew Form for their Sunday Night banner along with Reynolds for Maximum Effort. George Dewey is also executive producing via Maximum Effort.

IF releases in United States theaters on May 17, 2024, from Paramount Pictures.
