According to a press release, Maya is John Frusciante’s first instrumental electronic album under his given name. Frusciante typically makes electronic music as Trickfinger, and his latest Trickfinger album, She Smiles Because She Presses the Button, arrived this past June.

Discussing his cat and his new album, Frusciante said in a statement, “Maya was with me as I made music for 15 years, so I wanted to name it after her. She loved music, and with such a personal title, it didn’t seem right to call myself Trickfinger, somehow, so it’s by John Frusciante.”
