John Farnham Announces Memoir ‘The Voice Inside’

ARIA Hall Of Famer John Farnham has announced his first-ever autobiography, entitled The Voice Inside. Written in collaboration with Poppy Stockell – who directed Farnham’s 2023 documentary Finding The Voice – the book covers the veteran singer’s entire career, from emerging as Johnny Farnham in the 60s to finding multi-platinum success in the 80s, through to his shock mouth cancer diagnosis in 2022.

“Having been asked many times, it finally felt like the right time to sit down and tell my story,” said Farnham in a press statement. “It is a very strange feeling looking back on my life, on the good and the bad, and now that I have started, it is all rushing back. I hope the book engages and entertains, because that’s what so much of my life has been about.”

Stockell, for her part, shared a statement of her own regarding working with Farnham on the book. “[It] has been like sitting down with an old friend – who also happens to bean absolute legend,” she said.

“His resilience and sense of humour shine through [in] every recollection, making this project a genuine reflection of the man behind the music. It’s been a joy to help bring his tales to life, and I can’t wait for readers to get an unfettered glimpse of the man whose music is the soundtrack to so many of our lives.”

The book is set for release on Wednesday, October 30th 2024 via Hatchette Australia. The publishing company’s Head Of Literary, Vanessa Radnidge, described Farnham as an “iconic and much-loved Australian” whom they were “so proud” to be working with on the book’s release.

“Like so many Australians, I am a huge fan of John Farnham’s,” she said. “His talent is legendary, and his resilience in a tough industry is inspiring. However, we didn’t really know the battles, the hard times or the depths of who John really is. Now he is sharing his life, his memories and what defined him. I know I am one of many who can’t wait to get to know the voice inside.”
