John Cusack Sold His Beachfront Home in Malibu

SELLER: John Cusack
LOCATION: Malibu, CA
PRICE: $10,300,000
SIZE: 4,660 square feet, 3 bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: After six months on the market and several substantial price chops John Cusack sold his beachfront house in Malibu for $10.3 million, an impressive amount that is almost five times the $2.1 million he paid in November 1999 but nearly 25% below the property’s optimistic original asking price of $13.5 million.

The 4,460-square-foot Spanish residence has a walled, gated and trellis shaded entry courtyard that leads to a double-height living room with chunky raised hearth fireplace and a towering wall of windows and glass sliders that open to the sea-side deck that runs the full width of the house. Listing details indicate there’s a “large kitchen” and an “open study” on the main floor and the master bedroom is described as “oversize” with a private balcony, office and large bathroom with emerald-green floor tiles. Two upper level guest bedrooms were combined and outfitted, per marketing materials, as a gym and lower level offers a dry sauna, full bathroom and direct access to the beach.

The politically active actor, who last year along with journalist Daniel Ellsberg and novelist Arundhati Roy met with and interviewed American whistleblower Edward Snowden at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Moscow, does not appear own any other property in Los Angeles, at least not any this property gossip knows of. He does, however, continue to own a 4,371-square-foot condo on a high floor of a 52-story high-rise in downtown Chicago he picked up in May 2005 for $2,876 million.

Mister Cusack co-starred this summer with Samuel L. Jackson in the widely panned horror movie “Cell,” an adaptation of a Stephen King novel of the same name, and is set to star in the upcoming films “Misfortune” and, opposite Nicholas Cage and Adrian Grenier, “Southern Fury.”
