John Cena To Host Discovery Channel’s Shark Week

John Cena has been tapped as this year’s host of Shark Week, Discovery Channel’s annual summer celebration of All Things Shark. The week-long event kicks off on Sunday, July 7. The announcement was made Wednesday during Warner Bros. Discovery’s upfront in New York City.

The week will include Part 2 of Belly of the Beast, which gives an up-close look at a great white shark feeding frenzy. Other programs airing during the week include Monster Hammerhead: Species X about a potential new hammerhead species and Great White Serial Killer: Sea of Blood, which follows a great white shark wreaking havoc in a local village.

Additionally, Discovery promises more shark species will be highlighted this year.

Last year’s Shark Week with host Jason Momoa saw its highest premiere night ratings in three years.

The show drove the network to rank #1 in primetime for all of television with Adults and Men 18-49 and #1 across cable television with Adults and Men 25-54, Adults and Men 18-49, and Adults 18-34. The programming event reached more than 5.3 million total viewers across Discovery Channel, discovery+, and Max on its first night.
