Country music royalty graced the red carpet of the CMT Music Awards on Sunday when John Carter Cash and his wife Ana Cristina Cash arrived. The couple posed for photos prior to the event, held at the Moody Center in Austin.
For the occasion, the couple channeled the best of the country music aesthetic, with John Carter Cash, the only child of legendary country singers Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, wearing an embroidered blazer with a red neckerchief, a cowboy hat and a pair of bold sunglasses. Ana Cristina opted for a monochrome look.

Ana Cristina Cash wore a fitted gown by Melissa Pellone, featuring a sheer skirt, sheer opera gloves and a black floral choker. She channeled the country music aesthetic with her golden locks styled in voluminous curls that cascaded past her shoulders, and her dramatic makeup featuring a pop of color with a red lip.
While Ana Cristina’s gown undoubtedly had roots in the country music aesthetic, her frock of choice also highlighted one of the major trends seen on red carpets throughout 2024. Sheer elements have been a fixture since the beginning of 2024. Several major industry events, dating back to January’s Emmy Awards, have featured looks with bold takes on the sheer fashion trend.
The CMT Music Awards is just the latest awards show this year where the trend has reemerged. The iHeartRadio Music Awards last week also featured a bevy of celebrities embracing the sheer look in their own unique way.
While posing for photos on the red carpet at the 2024 CMT Music Awards, the couple shared a few snapshots with Carter Cash’s half-sister, Carlene Carter, the daughter of June Carter Cash and her first husband, Carl Smith.
On April 1, Carlene spoke out against Beyoncé’s critics after her recent debut in the country music category. “I’ve caught wind of some negativity over the release of Beyoncé’s ‘Cowboy Carter,’ her new country album,” Carter’s statement began, per “Today” show. “As a Carter Girl myself and coming from a long line of Carter Girls, I’m moved to ask why anyone would treat a Carter this way?” Beyoncé’s last name, Carter, comes via her marriage to husband Jay-Z.
“In my book, she’s one of us Carter women and we have always pushed the boundaries by trying whatever music we felt in our hearts and taking spirit-driven risks,” Carlene Carter said. She wore a custom glittering ensemble with the words “Carter Girl” embossed on the back of her ruby blazer.
