John Carpenter returns to directing after 13 years for new series “Suburban Screams”

John Carpenter is one of our greatest living auteurs. His movies include such classics and cult faves as 1978's Halloween, 1981's Escape From New York, 1982's The Thing, 1986's Big Trouble in Little China, and 1988's They Live. But the filmmaker essentially retired after 2010's poorly received The Ward, and, aside from a clutch of music videos featuring himself and his band, Carpenter has not returned to the director's chair since then. Until now.

The filmmaker has helmed an episode of John Carpenter's Suburban Screams, an unscripted horror anthology series premiering Oct. 13 on Peacock, the streamer has confirmed.
The show's six episodes explore true tales of terror that took place in seemingly perfect American hometowns. They will include not only firsthand accounts, but also cinematic reenactments, personal archives, and historic town press coverage.
In addition to directing an episode of the series, Carpenter is a producer on the show and composed its theme music.
