Following the closure of the elder abuse investigation of John Amos, the actor is speaking out.

“I want to first of all thank the LAPD for their professionalism and thoroughness in their investigation in which they concluded that I am doing well.” Amos, 84, said in a statement exclusively obtained by PEOPLE. "This is the same thing I have been saying all along in my response to the media."

"I want to thank my fans for their kind words to me in support of my movement everywhere I travel," he continued. "Furthermore, I am even more determined to complete production on the documentary film that my son and I are producing. It will shed light on the real truth as to the motives of those who have painted a false narrative about me. I am John Amos and quite frankly this mess is bringing out James Evans to stay."

"I learned something very valuable some years ago that I reference in my work and all that I do. Stand on the truth and stay there. it won't let you down. The truth will stand up for you. The LAPD's conclusion of their investigation along with my upcoming documentary each stand on that same truth. I'm good and the best is yet to come. Believe it."

The Los Angeles Police Department launched the investigation last month after Amos' daughter, Shannon, claimed her brother, Kelly C. "K.C.," wasn’t providing the appropriate care for their father amid his health issues.

On Monday, April 8, the LAPD confirmed to PEOPLE that they closed the case due to lack of evidence.

At the time, Shannon expressed disappointment in the outcome.

"While I acknowledge the efforts of the LAPD on my father’s case, I am disappointed with their conclusion since no one from my family has seen or spoken to my father since July 2023, when K.C. Amos, Eugene Brummet, and Belinda Foster removed him from a medical facility against doctors’ orders," she said in a statement to PEOPLE. "We continue to receive outreach from care providers, medical professionals, and others with evidence that raises concerns over his well-being and whether he is receiving the care his health requires."

Shannon first alleged her dad was the “victim of elder abuse” in June 2023, which he denied. She then filed a complaint with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and created a GoFundMe page to raise "care expenses" for the Coming to America star, which she later removed at his request.

In March, Amos called the claims of elder abuse “false and unmerited” in a statement to PEOPLE. He also referred to K.C., 52, as “a caring, thoughtful human being who respects me.”

“The real truth will come out soon and you will hear it from me,” Amos added. “Believe it."

Also in March, a rep for Shannon said in a statement to PEOPLE that the producer worried her father’s health was being “downplayed despite multiple hospitalizations."

"People think this is about money and rivalry... it is not," Shannon said. "We went through this before with my Mother, who also suffered tremendous neglect. We are trying to prevent the same thing from happening to my Father. I love my brother and I hope he will get the help he needs, but we need to prioritize the safety of my father who is vulnerable, first and foremost. Anything else can be addressed within our family."

Shannon and K.C. have a history of disagreements. K.C. was arrested in July after allegedly threatening to kill Shannon.

According to a complaint obtained by PEOPLE, Shannon believed “the immediacy of the threat and the likelihood that it would be carried out” after K.C. allegedly sent her text messages with photos of firearms and gang affiliations. The alleged threat made Shannon “fear for her life.”
