“Community” alum Joel McHale and “The Handmaid’s Tale” star Amanda Brugel are joining the cast of the action thriller “Becky,” which is being directed by Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion, directors of the Sundance film “Bushwick.”
The signing was announced by Highland Film Group, which will be handling international sales for the film at the Toronto International Film Festival. Robert Maillet (“Pacific Rim”) is also joining the cast, which is being led by Lulu Wilson (“The Haunting of Hill House”) and Kevin James.
McHale will play the father of his rebellious teenage daughter Becky (Wilson), as he takes her for a vacation at a lake house in an effort to try to reconnect after her mother’s death. The trip immediately takes a turn for the worse when a group of convicts on the run, led by the merciless Dominick (James), suddenly invade the lake house. Unfortunately for the convicts, Becky turns out to be a teenage John Wick who takes matters into her own hands.
“Becky” is being produced by Jordan Yale Levine, Jordan Beckerman and Russ Posternak of Yale Productions alongside Raphael Margules and J.D. Lifshitz of BoulderLight Pictures. UTA Independent Film Group is handling domestic sales.
McHale is represented by UTA and CAA; Brugel is repped by Parent Management and LINK Entertainment; Maillet is represented by The Characters Talent Agency.
