In 1990, one of the most popular holiday films to date was released.

"Home Alone" follows an eight-year-old boy -- Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) -- as he protects his house from a pair of burglars -- Marv (Joe Pesci) and Harry (Daniel Stern) -- after he was accidentally left home alone during Christmastime.

Just two years after "Home Alone" debuted, a sequel -- "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York" -- was released and quickly became the third highest-grossing film of 1992.

This year, "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York" is celebrating 30 years and Joe Pesci is remembering just how heavy some of the scenes were to film.

"Home Alone 2: Lost In New York" follows the same McCallister family one year after Kevin McCallister was left home alone. This time around, Kevin accidentally finds himself stranded in New York City after getting on the wrong flight in the airport.

30 years after its release, the "Home Alone" sequel is still just as popular and continues to be one of the most popular holiday films to date.

When speaking to PEOPLE, 79-year-old actor Joe Pesci opened up about how filming the "Home Alone" movies stood out from others he worked on. "The Home Alone movies were a more physical type of comedy, therefore, a little more demanding," he explained to the magazine when discussing some of his other films, including "Easy Money" (1983) and "Lethal Weapon 2" (1989).

Pesci also admitted that he did walk away with some injuries due to filming the stunt scenes, especially when Harry and Marv tried to break into the New York apartment that Kevin had previously set up with traps.

"In addition to the expected bumps, bruises, and general pains that you would associate with that particular type of physical humor, I did sustain serious burns to the top of my head during the scene where Harry's hat is set on fire," he said.

He added, "I was fortunate enough to have professional stuntmen do the real heavy stunts."

The "Goodfellas" actor also opened up about his relationship with some of his "Home Alone" costars, including lead actor Macaulay Culkin.

"I remember Macaulay as being a really sweet kid and, even at his age, very professional," Pesci said in regards to Culkin. "I intentionally limited my interactions with him to preserve the dynamic between his character, Kevin, and my character Harry."

He continued to explain how he made the personal choice of not to come in contact with the child actor because he did not "want it to come across on the screen that we were in any way friendly" while shooting the scenes he had with Culkin.

"I wanted to maintain the integrity of the adversarial relationship," the actor told PEOPLE.
