Throughout their almost four years of marriage and seven years together, Game of Thrones alum Sophie Turner and Jonas Brothers member Joe Jonas‘ relationship garnered millions of fans. And though the two kept their relationship mostly private, with only a few red carpets together through the years, we couldn’t help but be fascinated by their unlikely connection.

That all came to a crashing halt, however, when Jonas filed for divorce against Turner on Sept. 5, 2023. We were crushed, to say the least. And, unfortunately for their fans, and most importantly their two young daughters (Willa, 3, and Delphine, 1), Turner and Jonas’ split has only gotten messier and messier since then. From accusations that Turner only found out about their divorce “through the media,” to Jonas telling fans not to trust anyone in the middle of a Jonas Brothers concert, the two haven’t been afraid to go after each other, in court and beyond.

So, in case you’ve already lost track of the former couple’s messy split, check out a full timeline of their split below:

Following speculation about their split, Jonas filed for divorce from Turner on Sept 5, TMZ confirmed. In the documents, Jonas claimed that “the marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken.”

Alongside the news of Jonas’ filing, sources told TMZ that their kids were “residing with him of late.” Another source then added fuel to the fire by claiming Turner’s a “party girl.” “She likes to party, he likes to stay at home,” the source alleged. “They have very different lifestyles.”

Also according to the source, Jonas filed after he saw footage on their Ring camera that “made him realize the marriage was over.”

Five days after Jonas’ filing, the former couple shared a public statement on Instagram about their split. “After four wonderful years of marriage, we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage,” the statement read. “There are many speculative narratives as to why but truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children.”

On Sept 9, Jonas turned to his fans during a Jonas Brothers concert to address the situation. “It’s been a crazy week,” Jonas said while getting emotional, People reports. “I just want to say, if you don’t hear it from these lips, don’t believe it. Okay?” the musician told the crowd. “Thank you, everyone, for the love and support to me and my family. I love you guys.”

More than a week later, the Game of Thrones alum took their split to court yet again as she filed a petition stating “wrongful retention of two children” in New York City by Jonas from “their habitual residence in England.”

“[Jonas] refuses to return the passports to [Turner] and refuses to send the children home to England,” the lawsuit stated, per Rolling Stone.

In the court documents, Turner revealed many things about their relationship and their split, including the Aug 15 “argument” that led to their demise and the fact that they decided in Dec 2022 that they would all be moving to England in late 2023. Also in the documents, Turner claimed she learned about Jonas’ divorce filing with everyone else “through the media.” Ouch!

In addition, Turner also backed her claim that they decided that England would be their “forever home” by adding a letter that Jonas wrote to a homeowner to convince them to sell their house. “The moment we turned the corner and caught sight of the charming blue shutters adorning [redacted], we experienced a sense of magic unlike anything we had felt before,” Jonas writes in the letter, on Page Six.

Soon after the media caught wind of Turner’s lawsuit, a rep for Jonas made a statement denying her claims that she learned about the divorce “through the media.”

“After multiple conversations with Sophie, Joe initiated divorce proceedings in Florida, as Florida is the appropriate jurisdiction for the case,” read a statement from Jonas’ rep, per Rolling Stone. “Sophie was aware that Joe was going to file for divorce.”

“The Florida Court has already entered an order that restricts both parents from relocating the children,” the statement continued. “Sophie was served with this order on September 6, 2023, more than two weeks ago.”

After people imagined the worst when it came to what Jonas saw in the Ring camera footage, a source close to Turner revealed what actually happened. Per a Us Weekly source, the Game of Thrones alum said some “not-so-nice things about Jonas” to a friend in the footage. “It wasn’t anything more than that,” the source stated, “but that was the final straw.”

Less than a week after Turner’s initial filing, a new legal filing prevented either parent from removing their kids from the United States.

“The Mother and Father are prohibited from removing their two children, WRJ, born in 2020, and DMJ, born in 2022 (collectively, the ‘children’), or causing the children to be removed from the jurisdictions of the United States District Courts for the Southern & Eastern Districts of New York pending further order of this Court,” the interim consent order read, per Rolling Stone.

On Oct 3, Turner virtually attended a pretrial conference to set a date for their custody battle. According to the New York Post, the actress’ lawyers were adamant on having the date be as soon as possible. “We have young kids, and we have the petitioner who is here now in the United States, but she has work commitments in the UK in January,” one of her lawyers said.

At the conference, the lawyers also revealed that both Turner and Jonas are set to show up in person to a divorce court hearing in Florida on Dec. 14.

In addition, the lawyers added that Turner and Jonas agreed to a four-day mediation to sort through the dissolution of their marriage. The agenda for the mediation, which will begin on Oct. 4, was said to include a custody arrangement and plan for co-parenting their kids.

In March, Jonas was also photographed moving on, this time with model Stormi Bree as they enjoyed the beach together in Los Cabos, Mexico.

At the time, reports confirmed the two were dating, and had the potential to get serious soon. “He hasn’t introduced his kids to Stormi yet, but if things continue going well like they have been, then he would definitely be open to them meeting sometime soon,” the insider told Us Weekly.

Months after a temporary custody agreement was settled in court, Turner’s lawyers asked a Miami-Dade County judge to “reactive” their divorce case on March 19. In other words, Turner hopes to turn their temporary solution into a permanent one.

“The filing was a legal formality, and the couple continues to negotiate an amicable resolution,” a representative for Jonas told People at the time.

On May 15, Turner opened up about the divorce for the first time during an interview with British Vogue. “I mean, those were the worst few days of my life,” Turner remembered.

She then went on to address the “partying girl” rumors, which she vehemently denied. “It hurt because I really do completely torture myself over every move I make as a mother – mum guilt is so real!” Turner said. “I just kept having to say to myself, ‘None of this is true. You are a good mum and you’ve never been a partier.’”

“It’s unfathomable the amount of people that will just make s— up and put it up based on a picture,” she continued of the rumor. “A picture might tell a thousand words, but it’s not my story. It felt like I was watching a movie of my life that I hadn’t written, hadn’t produced, or starred in.”

“It was shocking,” she added. “I’m still in shock.”
