Jonas and Turner share two daughters together - Delphine, 15 months, and Willa, 3

  • Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner have agreed to a temporary arrangement that allows their two daughters to split time with them through early 2024

  • The estranged couple has until Dec. 23 to share an update on plans beyond the interim consent order

  • Turner filed a complaint against Jonas for "wrongful retention" of the children last month amid their divorce

Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner have reached a temporary agreement regarding their two daughters.

In court documents obtained by PEOPLE Tuesday, an interim consent order is laid out for custody of the estranged couple's two daughters — Delphine, 15 months, and Willa, 3 — for the coming weeks after being "engaged in a productive mediation from Oct. 4-7."

From Oct. 9-21, the children will be with the Game of Thrones alum, 27, during which time they are permitted to travel to England and throughout the United States.

Turner or the child's nanny is then to return the girls to the musician, 34, on the 21st, at which point the kids will remain with their dad until Nov. 2. The same travel permissions are extended to Jonas for his time with the children.

Jonas or the nanny then returns the children to Turner on Nov. 2, where they will stay until Nov. 22. The kids then return to Jonas from Nov. 22 to Dec. 16 and will seemingly spend the holidays with Turner, in her care from Dec. 16 to Jan. 7.

As for the future, the agreement requires "that the parties shall jointly submit a status report letter" prior to Dec. 23, outlining the status of mediation between the two at that point.

The mediation comes after Turner sued her estranged husband for wrongful retention, alleging that Jonas was withholding their passports and not allowing them to return to England. The complaint against the musician called for "the immediate return of children wrongfully removed or wrongfully retained," with Turner's legal team asserting the "wrongful retention" began on Sept. 20.

Shortly after Turner filed her complaint, Jonas released a statement disputing her claims and saying that he believed the two had reached an agreement to work on a co-parenting plan.

A few days later, the two reached a temporary agreement to keep their two daughters in New York City, according to documents filed in New York and obtained by PEOPLE.

The interim consent order stated that Turner and Jonas were ordered to keep their kids in the Southern and Eastern districts of New York, which includes New York City, Long Island and the Hudson Valley.

On Sept. 5, the musician filed for a dissolution of marriage in Miami from his wife of four years. The filing claimed that "the marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken." Per the divorce filing, the couple have a prenup in place.

The divorce filing also referenced the couple's two kids, saying "A parenting plan should be established, which addresses all parenting issues and contains a timesharing schedule providing for frequent and continuing contact with both parties. The children have been residing with their father in Miami and other locations throughout the United States."

Reps for both Turner and Jonas did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

The filing came only days after PEOPLE reported Jonas had retained a divorce lawyer, despite continuing to wear his wedding band during concerts.

The couple first connected through Instagram DMs in 2016 and tied the knot in 2019.

Although the couple is generally private about their kids, they often discuss their parenting styles in interviews and on the red carpet.

In an interview with Elle UK in 2022, Turner opened up about how fame can be hard for her to deal with and how she and Jonas try to make their family life as normal as possible. "I'm very protective of the life we've built," she said. "Every time Joe and I do a red carpet together, we make sure it's for the right reason and makes sense for our careers. You never want to market yourself as a celebrity couple. It's not that cool."

"And my daughter never asked for any of this," she went on. "I know what it can do to your mental health to be in this industry, and to be photographed every day and have the comments. It's not something I want her to deal with unless she says, 'This is what I want to do.'"

"We're quite strict about that. We'll encourage her to do whatever she wants but I don't think we would professionally let her do anything until she's 18. I also feel quite strongly about my daughter not becoming a nepotism child."

When Willa was 9 months old, Jonas talked about his new role as a father during an appearance on CBS This Morning. When asked about the extra time he got to spend with Turner and Willa during the pandemic, Jonas said it had been "amazing."

"It's been forced time at home — I'm always on the go, I'm always moving and traveling and touring. To be in one place for a solid amount of time and having my feet on the ground and be with my family, my immediate family, is time I don't think I'll get back," the musician shared. "I'm so thankful and grateful."

The Game of Thrones actress has also said that being a mom has made her a better actor. During a conversation on The Wrap's UnWrapped podcast, Turner said that becoming a mother has given her a "different perspective" on her roles and has made her a "much more emotional person."

"The empathy is heightened; the feelings about family are just like overflowing," she said. "It's made me a better actor for becoming, you know, becoming a mother."
