Ah, young love. Noted beautiful people and newlyweds Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner hit the red carpet for the 2019 Met Gala Monday evening and proceeded to blow the competition out of the water in matching geometric outfits that managed to feel perfectly on-theme and actually pretty cool.

Listen: I know these two have been having a moment. I know that Joe has been riding high on a Jonas Brothers reunion that is just too damn good for me to really grapple with, emotionally. (How did I hate them as a younger man? Why is "Sucker" such a bop? Why are his fits so on-point?) And I know that Sophie is finally hitting the crest of the tsunami-level wave that is Game of Thrones while also chugging red wine for the Jumbo-Tron to my absolute delight, plus the Pinot-stained grins of millions of others.

If I'm being honest, I kind of don't want to give them another win. But what I want doesn't matter right now. It's all about what they deserve. And I'll be damned if I don't think they deserve some serious praise for this:

Do you see that turtleneck? Do you see all those bright and bold and just-too-much shapes that manage to feel both obnoxious and cool-as-fuck? Can you wrap your head around the jumpsuit that, in defiance of god and nature, blends those same sorts of shapes with an abundance of sequins. Can you see the unfettered glee on Joe's face?

What you're looking at is two people who know they're doing a very good job at life, at the highest levels, and with the kind of audience most of us could never imagine. I want to hate them. But really, I wish them all the best. We need more of this. Always.
