Joe Biden Jokes That Taylor Swift Endorsement Is “Classified Information”

President Joe Biden said a potential 2024 endorsement by pop superstar Taylor Swift is “classified information” during a joke-filled 10-year reunion appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers on Monday night.

“I will tell you, she did endorse me in 2020,” a grinning Biden added about Swift, amid widespread conspiracy theories that the singer and her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, are part of a dark plot to help reelect the U.S. president later this year.

Biden, who made a rare media appearance on the late night talker, also addressed widespread concerns about his age when told by Meyers that he was 81 years old.

“Who the hell told you that? That classified,” the president quipped. Joking aside, Biden added: “You got to take a look at the other guy, he’s about as old as I am, but he can’t remember his wife’s name.” That was a reference to former President Donald Trump during a recent Conservative Political Action Committee appearance apparently referring to Melania Trump as “Mercedes.”

Biden also argued that what counts is “how old” a candidate’s ideas are. “Look, this is a guy who wants to take us back. He wants to take us back on Roe v. Wade. He wants to take us back on a whole range of issues that are 50, 60 years, they’ve been solid American positions,” a campaigning Biden argued.

Biden and fellow guest and actor Amy Poehler were on hand to help Meyers celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Late Night after they were the first guests on the inaugural episode in 2014. Monday’s show opened with Meyers joking about not being able to rebook Biden, to which Poehler replied, “Oh — I could get him.”

The president then walked out onstage, only to quickly ask Meyers why he hadn’t made a return visit sooner. Poehler also reminded Biden of his cameo in an episode of her show Parks and Recreation, and he responded that the walk-on part was “maybe the best gig I ever have, period.”

Also in the realm of conspiracy theories floating around on social media, Meyers asked the president whether he enjoyed playing around with the Dark Brandon meme (Biden’s internet alter ego) — which grew out of Trump supporters’ “Dark MAGA” theme — to which he said, “no, I resent the hell out of it,” while simultaneously donning his trademark aviator glasses.

A more serious Biden then returned to campaign mode, discussing his 2024 agenda and the perils of allowing Trump back into the White House. Meyers ended the segment by recalling two presents he received during the then-U.S. vice president’s 2014 first visit to the show: an Amtrak whistle and a train conductor’s hat.

Meyers said the whistle was his children’s favorite toy and “they blow it all the time, and it’s really irritating, so I want to give it back.” The offer was quickly rebuffed by Biden.
