Jodie Turner-Smith Has a Refreshing Approach to Joshua Jackson Divorce Amid Lupita Nyong'o Romance
Jodie Turner-Smith probably didn’t expect her 2023 to end with a divorce from her husband, Joshua Jackson, but she filed legal documents last September ending their almost four-year marriage. While the former couple’s priority is their three-year-old daughter, Juno, she’s also had to contend with her ex’s very public romance with Lupita Nyong’o. Yet, somehow, her approach to their split feels refreshing after a year of A-list breakups that were often contentious.
“Sometimes things we really want to work just don’t end up working,” Turner-Smith told The Times. “And that’s OK. The most important thing is that you choose what’s healthiest for you and your family and definitely your children. The 37-year-old actress then hinted at what might have gone wrong in their marriage if you read between the lines from what she told the outlet.

“There are so many different moments in our life where we look at ourselves and say, ‘Who am I and am I being true to that?’ If the answer is no, then you have to make a move because I believe that there are visible scars from staying in places that are not good for us,” she said vaguely. “And they don’t just affect us, they affect everybody around us.” The Queen & Slim star doesn’t view the divorce as a “failure” because they shared “such a beautiful moment together.”
Turner-Smith is looking ahead to the future, what she calls “a new moment” for her and Jackson — but this time, not together. She’s looking forward to an “exciting” future and she believes that both of them set a good example for their daughter by recognizing “when something’s not working.” She added, “The big takeaway is that this is about just as much love and joy as it has always been. This is only about taking a step forward into a better life for everybody involved.”
Her comments came at the same time Jackson confirmed his romance with Nyong’o after they were seen engaged in some heavy PDA for her birthday weekend in Mexico. “They looked madly in love like they just couldn’t get enough of one another,” an eyewitness told E! News. The couple was first spotted enjoying a group outing to a Janelle Monae concert last fall. It wasn’t until they tried to hide from the paparazzi during a grocery run that people started whispering about their possible dating situation which was finally confirmed during their 2024 beach romp.
