Jodie Foster is celebrating her Oscar nomination with her love by her side.

At the 2024 Oscars on Sunday March 10, the 61-year-old star was accompanied by her wife Alexandra Hedison. The pair posed together for photos on the red carpet. And when Foster caught up with ABC’s On the Red Carpet preshow, the five-time Oscar nominee and two-time winner explained that every trip to the Academy Awards is unique — but this one is particularly special.

“It’s different every time,” she said. “You’re coming in with a different movie, different people, a different time in your life.” Foster is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the biopic Nyad.

Foster explained of this particular awards journey and nomination, “I think I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. Maybe just the most content I’ve ever been. I think it’s more like a bonus thing. It just feels more fun.”

Foster added that she’s also “so proud of” True Detective season 4, which wrapped up in February, and that she “really fell in love with the limited series format” and might return to it as a director.

In Nyad, Foster plays Bonnie Stoll, the friend of swimmer Diana Nyad, played by Annette Bening. Bening is nominated for Best Actress.

Foster and Hedison, 54, married back in 2014. Hedison is a photographer, actress and filmmaker. Their date at the 2024 Oscars marked a rare red carpet appearance for the pair.

For her part, Stoll, 71, was thrilled that Foster would be portraying her in the film. “She’s just the loveliest human being,” she told PEOPLE in 2023. After she was cast in the film Foster went over to Stoll’s house to spend time with her.

“I can't sit still for the most part. Jodie came over. We sat outside for three hours straight,” Stoll said. “I never even thought about standing up. You know, ‘What’s your favorite food?’ ‘Oh, me too!’ That kind of thing,” she explained, adding that they became real friends.

Foster was first nominated for an Oscar for her role in 1976’s Taxi Driver. She was just 14, making her one of the youngest ever Oscar nominees. She was next nominated for 1988’s The Accused, winning Best Actress. She won the award a second time for The Silence of the Lambs in 1992. Her forth nomination was for 1995’s Nell.

This January, Foster supported Hedison at the Sundance Film Festival, where her non-fiction short film ALOK premiered. Foster executive produced the doc, which focuses on Alok Vaid-Menon, a nonbinary author, poet, comedian and public speaker. "Alex and ALOK are part of making people better instead of worse,” Foster told The Today Show in January.
