JoAnna Garcia Swisher and her husband, Nick Swisher, instantly clicked.

The Sweet Magnolias actress admits she "fell in love pretty quickly" with the former Yankee player. After meeting through a friend, JoAnna and Nick began dating and got engaged a year later. By the end of 2010, the two were wed and, within a few years, they began welcoming kids.

The couple have two children, and wanting a family was a desire that drew them together.

"One of the things that really struck me about Nick when I met him was his desire to start a family. Becoming a father was so important to him, so I knew right then and there that we were both aligned and wanted to experience parenthood together." JoAnna shared with PEOPLE.

Nick also never fails to let his wife know how lucky he feels to have found her.

"My life changed when she came into it ... Jo, you are my partner in everything I do ... and my absolute best friend!" he wrote in a 10-year anniversary post on Instagram.

He's a former professional baseball player

Nick is a retired professional baseball player, following in the footsteps of his dad, Steve Swisher, who also played major league baseball.

After high school, Nick went to Ohio State University, where he played for the Buckeye baseball team in the Big Ten Conference. His performance on the team earned him the honor of being named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2000.

Nick made his MLB debut playing with the Oakland Athletics in 2004, but it was with the New York Yankees that he became a World Series Winner in 2009. A year later, he became an All-Star.

By the time he was traded to the Cleveland Indians, Nick and JoAnna were married. They relocated and started their family in Cleveland, but he returned to New York and the Yankees in 2016 before retiring in 2017.

He's a sports analyst and podcast host

After retiring from playing professional baseball, Nick stuck around the Yankees as a special advisor, alongside former teammate Alex Rodriguez. He's also moonlighted as a guest instructor for Yankees spring training.

In addition, Nick serves as a sports analyst for Peacock TV and CBS Sports.

In the past, he acted as an analyst for Fox Sports, contributing to MLB Whiparound, FS1's daily baseball studio program during baseball season and having regular guest appearances on FS1 daily studio shows.

In October 2022, he launched his own podcast, called The Nick Swisher Show, where he has guests on to discuss the highs and lows of life, baseball, parenting and more. Past guests have included actor Frank Grillo, actress Becca Tobin, and dad of Charlie and Dixie, Marc D'Amelio.

They got married in 2010

JoAnna and Nick wed on Dec. 11, 2010. They celebrated their union at the Breakers Hotel & Resort in Palm Beach alongside an all-star guest list that included including Cameron Diaz and Alex Rodriguez. Stars Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Reba McEntire and Lance Bass were all part of the wedding party.

The bride wore an ivory, strapless, drop-waist ball gown and veil by Monique Lhuillier, and the groom wore a tux by Burberry London.

The couple had been engaged for less than a year after Nick popped the question in May 2010.

"I think for the first time in my life, I have a woman who I could not be more proud of," Nick told PEOPLE. "We do such a great job really pushing the other one to do better and I think that's what you have to have."

JoAnna posted a sweet tribute to her partner on their 12-year anniversary in December 2022.

"12 years of building the most beautiful life together ❤️ cheers to my forever date, @yourboyswish. I love you so much, Nick ❤️," she captioned a cute video of the two sharing a toast.

They share two children

JoAnna and Nick are parents to two daughters, Emerson Jay and Sailor Stevie.

Their first-born, Emerson Jay Swisher, was born on May 21, 2013, in Cleveland, Ohio.

"We are overjoyed, blessed and so full of love that our daughter Emme has finally arrived," the Swishers told PEOPLE. "She is healthy, beautiful and vibrant. It's the best feeling in the world."

The couple's second child, Sailor Stevie Swisher, was born on June 28, 2016.

"Watching Emme meet her baby sister for the first time was so incredible," the couple told PEOPLE. "We weren't sure what to expect because she has been the center of our world, but she is so sweet and gentle with her. Our family finally feels complete. We can't wait to see what's in store for our precious little girls."

When asked about having more kids in the future, JoAnna told PEOPLE, "I don't know if we're done yet, but we're certainly enjoying the ride."

They share a "circus" of pets

JoAnna and Nick are animal lovers, and as a result, their family is full of rescue animals. Their rescue dogs include a black Great Dane named Romeo and the much smaller Cooper, who JoAnna has called their "one-of-a kind wonder dog."

JoAnna opened up about Romeo's wits to PEOPLE, saying: "Romeo, our Great Dane, is really smart, and he has learned how to open up the garbage can. It's been really problematic."

Aside from Romeo and Cooper, the couple shares two mini chihuahuas named Lucky and Elsa, in addition to a cat called Prince Rainbow Sparkle, and a hamster.

Speaking to PEOPLE about a recent road trip, JoAnna said: "We had a cat, and we had our four dogs, and we had our hamster, and we were all in an SUV. And we had no room for any luggage. Like, barely a snack bag could have fit in the car with all of our family."

"But I looked at my husband, and I just said, 'We're so blessed,' " she continued. "We have our two daughters here, all of our animals, and we are a traveling circus. It never ceases to amaze me."

They've settled in Georgia

With JoAnna's Netflix show Sweet Magnolias filming in Atlanta, it made sense for the Swisher family to settle in Georgia. They discovered Lake Oconee, Georgia, while she was filming in 2017 and, ultimately, they decided to buy a house there.

"We immediately fell in love," she told Southern Living of her first trip to the lake community. "I've been consistently working in Georgia since then, and every time we were here, we'd make sure that we would carve out a little extra time or come early to visit."

"I was commuting in and out of work, no problem; my husband made a million friends; and my daughters were the happiest they've ever been," she continued. "I thought, 'How could I ever deny my family this?' "

The couple used to live in Los Angeles, and split time between Georgia and JoAnna's hometown of Tampa as well, but they sold their Florida home in 2021 and have adapted to lake life full time.
