Jimmy Kimmel is celebrating his wife Molly this Mother's Day — and she's making sure he chooses the right photo.

On Sunday, May 12, Kimmel, 56, initially shared a photo of his wife on Instagram, sitting in bed with her reading glasses, cuddled up with their two kids Jane, 9, and Billy, 7. "Happy Mother’s Day to the lady in the glasses and every great Mom," Kimmel wrote in his caption.

A few hours later, the comedian posted a different, much more glamorous shot of his wife, writing a hilarious caption to go with it.

"So it turns out, one should check with his significant other before posting a photo of said other in bed with wet hair and wearing reading glasses…so now I have no choice but to employ the nuclear option: this photo of my beautiful, brilliant and glamorous wife shot by Mark Seliger," Kimmel joked.

"Happy Mothers Day Molly - we love you and appreciate the zillion things you do."

Kimmel is also dad to two adult children from his past marriage to Gina Maddy: daughter Katie, 32, and son Kevin, 30. The couple were together from 1988 until 2003. In 2013, the star married Molly McNearney, an executive producer and co-head writer on his talk show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!

On Monday, May 13, Kimmel appeared on an episode of Live with Kelly and Mark and shared more about how he chose the wrong photo for his wife in his Mother's Day tribute.

"Well, first of all, we are in New York and our kids are back in L.A. Usually all the pressure’s on them, really. But this Mother’s Day, I posted a picture on Instagram which I thought would be nice. And I wanted to get the kids in there and our new dog Todd in there," Kimmel began.

"And I wrote. “Happy Mother’s Day to the lady in the glasses and every great mom.” Apparently, this was the wrong picture to choose and an insufficient message. She’s like, ‘The lady in the glasses, like you don’t even know who I am?’ " Kimmel shared.

"She was very upset. And then I put a very glamorous photograph of her up," Kimmel said, with Kelly Ripa saying, "Now that’s a Mother’s Day post."

Before Jane and Billy were born, Kimmel told Ellen DeGeneres that he had "really forgotten everything" about raising babies.

"It's funny because I was just with some friends who just had a baby. I was like, 'Oh, ya.' And there are new ways to do things," he went on to explain at the time.

The late night talkshow host told PEOPLE in 2016 that raising his two younger children has taught him valuable life skills. "I'm more patient, I'm more confident," Kimmel explained at the time before noting "They [Jane and Billy] are very funny. Well, they have no respect for me whatsoever. They make fun of me. They're just goofballs."

He also revealed to Vulture in 2017 that as his star power grew, he had to learn how to balance all that life had afforded his family with a wish to not spoil his children.

“Raising kids with money is a tricky thing,” he said. “You don’t want to just hand them everything. I don’t know the best way to go about it. I’ve concluded that pretending you don’t have money is not the best way, because kids aren’t stupid."
