Jimmy Kimmel Addresses Retirement Rumors on ‘Ellen’

For a few days now, the Internet has been abuzz with rumors that Jimmy Kimmel will retire when his contract is up in 2020. Kimmel joined Ellen on Thursday to address those rumors and set the record straight. In short, Kimmel has no plans to retire.

He explained, “I did an interview, and in it, the guy asked me, ‘Do you ever think about retiring?’ I said, ‘I still have three years on my contract, until 2020, and who knows after that. Maybe…’ I definitely didn’t say I was retiring. Then the next thing, online everyone is like, ‘Jimmy Kimmel is retiring.’”

Kimmel was also quick to point out that lists of his possible replacements immediately followed the “news” that he was going to retire.

“You go, like, ‘Oh, that’s nice that people care that I might possibly be retiring.’ But just like that, the next article is, Here’s a list of people that can replace him,” Kimmel joked.

So, according to Kimmel, this whole thing has been much ado about nothing.
