Jim Meenaghan, UTA’s Co-Head Of Independent Film Group & Head Of Motion Picture Business Affairs, Stepping Down From Both Roles At End Of Year

EXCLUSIVE: UTA partner Jim Meenaghan has decided to step down from his dual roles as the Head of Motion Picture Business Affairs and Co-Head of the Independent Film Group at the end of the year. The details of his departure were revealed in a memo that was recently sent out to staff and obtained by Deadline. Sources add that it was Meenaghan’s decision to leave the agency and a very amicable one as he is very well liked at UTA.

“I’ve had a very exciting and rewarding career at UTA and am truly grateful for the unique roles the agency allowed me to play and the support from really talented colleagues along the way. I’m proud to have been a partner in UTA and feel very comfortable that this is the right time to move my career in a new direction,” said Meenaghan.

Meenaghan has been with the agency since 2009 and in that time he has helped build two film departments by professionalizing its business affairs functions and partnering with co-head Rena Ronson to expand the expertise and international relationships of the Independent Film Group.  Over the years, he has worked with some of the agency’s top clients including Joel & Ethan Coen, Wes Anderson, Greta Gerwig, Noah Baumbach, Mike Birbiglia.

“After more than 15 years at UTA, our partner Jim Meenaghan has decided to step down from his dual roles as the Head of Motion Picture Business Affairs and Co-Head of the Independent Film Group at the end of the year. Jim has been a key contributor to UTA’s growth and success over the years and a friend to many.

Since joining UTA in 2009, Jim has helped build two best in class film departments by professionalizing our business affairs functions and partnering with co-head Rena Ronson to expand the expertise and international relationships of the Independent Film Group.  Over the years, Jim has worked with some of the agency’s most prestigious clients including Joel & Ethan Coen, Wes Anderson, Greta Gerwig, Noah Baumbach, Mike Birbiglia, and more. And he has been instrumental in some of the most notable independent film sales in Sundance history.

Throughout, he has been a consummate professional and team player. We’re grateful for everything he has accomplished and excited to see what he does next. Please join me in wishing Jim the best as we look forward to working with him in the future.”
