Jim Carrey gets emotional explaining why he dedicated book to his late brother

On Wednesday, Jim Carrey appeared on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah to promote his new book, Memoirs and Misinformation. While discussing the book’s dedication to his brother, John Carrey, Jim was overcome with emotions.

John suffered from aplastic anemia from the time he was four until his death last year at the age of 60. According to Mayo Clinic, aplastic anemia is a condition that occurs when your body stops producing enough new blood cells. The condition leaves patients fatigued and more prone to infections and uncontrolled bleeding.

Jim was inspired by his brother’s resilience and grace while battling the condition. “He wore it like a champion,” he recalled. “Like this guy never complained. He never said, ‘Oh my God, I can't do things because of what I have’ or ‘what I am dealing with.’”

Ultimately, Jim hopes his brother will live on his book. He said, “What I want to do is tell the world I had a very special brother.”

The Daily Show With Trevor Noah airs weeknights at 11 p.m. on Comedy Central.
