Jhené Aiko’s “Comfort Inn Ending (Freestyle)” Earns Platinum Certification

Jhené Aiko has another platinum-certified record to add to her growing collection. The Los Angeles native‘s No I.D.-produced track “Comfort Inn Ending (Freestyle)” has officially counted one million equivalent sales units as of Monday (Sept. 18) according to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The vulnerable fan-favorite reached gold status in April 2019.

“Comfort Inn Ending (Freestyle)” was initially released in 2013 on Aiko’s debut EP Sail Out through Def Jam Records. The song is listed as a bonus track on the Grammy-nominated work.

“I think that people don’t expect me to say the things I say,” explained the 35-year-old to Global Grind of the straightforward lyrics at the project’s release. “Just between me and my friends, sometimes I can be vulgar and that’s what it is with the music, I can be anything.”

The mother of two is not the only R&B artist to add RIAA certifications this week. Brent Faiyaz had both songs and albums earn platinum or gold status on the same day. His July 2022 album Wasteland has officially sold 1 Million certified units.

“To me, Wasteland is very much this post-pandemic space of confusion and loss, and I guess reckless abandonment,” explained the Maryland representative to Business Insider. “I feel like everybody was in the space where we lost somebody during COVID and s**t like that. It was a lot of civil unrest going on. 2020 was really some of the wildest s**t ever, 2020 and 2021 was some of the wildest s**t ever. So I think Wasteland to me is what I felt like America was, what this world we’re living in was.”

Additionally, Faiyaz’s songs “Clouded,” “Deadman Walking,” and “Trust” are all 2x platinum. “Wasting Time” featuring Drake and The Neptunes, “Gang Over Luv,” “F**k The World (Summer In London),” have all reached earned platinum recognition.

The track “Talk 2 U” is certified gold.
