Jewish Food and Cultural Festival is scheduled for Nov. 5 [Religion Digest]

Oct. 28----The 23rd annual Jewish Food and Cultural Festival will be held at Reform Congregation Oheb Sholom, 555 Warwick Drive., Wyomissing, on Nov. 5 from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. Apple cake, brisket, pastrami, corned beef, hot dogs and more. Plenty of the old favorites will be back. See www.ohebsholom.org for the full menu. There is no admission charge. Guests are welcome to order meals in advance on the website with indoor pickup. Credit cards are preferred when purchasing meals on-site. There will be dining areas throughout the building, and a new ordering system should keep things moving. Mezzo-soprano Molly Nemirow and accompanist Holly Altenderfer will perform songs in celebration of Jewish culture in the Broadway and classical traditions. Performances at 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Tour the sanctuary with Rabbi Brian Michelson and hear the blowing of the Shofar. Check out displays on Jewish holiday celebrations.

—Christ Lutheran Church, 1301 Luzerne St., Reading, is hosting a Not-So-Typical Reformation Sunday worship service on Sunday at 4 p.m. Glenside neighborhood native the Rev. Rashion "Woody" Santiago will be the guest preacher. Santiago is the pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Tannersville, Monroe County. Volunteer choir members from all congregations are invited to come at 2:30 pm to rehearse the anthem "Come to the Banquet" by James Chepponis. Reformation trivia questions can be answered with prizes awarded following worship. A time of fellowship will follow worship.

—Trinity United Church of Christ, 2449 Cumberland Ave., Mount Penn, is holding a holiday Stop & Shop featuring crafters, vendors and raffle baskets next Saturday from 8 a.m.-noon. Food will be available for purchase.

—Hill Church, 620 Hill Church Road, Pike Township, will hold its annual turkey supper next Saturday from 3-7:30 in the picnic grove dining hall. Tickets will be sold until 7 p.m. Cost is $15 for adults and $8 for children 3-10. Take-out orders are $1 extra. Dinner includes turkey with all of the trimmings, beverage and dessert.

—Salem Belleman's Church, 3540 Belleman's Church Road, Centre Township, will be hosting The Faithful Men to be a part of the 10 a.m. worship service on Sunday. The group will present the message through gospel music. Belleman's will hold its annual Christmas bazaar in the Fellowship Hall on Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. featuring a variety of food items available for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Items for sale include other foods, candies, crafts and pastries, and there will be a flea market in the basement.

—Salem United Church of Christ, 307 Covered Bridge Road, Oley Township, will hold a holiday bazaar next Saturday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. There will be crafts, quilts, cookies and white elephant items; a light lunch, including soups, BBQ and hot dogs; and a raffle including a quilt, afghan and gift cards.

—Epler's United Church of Christ, 1151 W. Leesport Road, Bern Township, will have a Food and Faith night on Friday, with a meal at 6 p.m. followed by a relaxed, abbreviated worship service at 7.

—Christ Lutheran Church, 222 Niantic Road, Douglass Township, Montgomery County, will have Coffee and Conversation on Sunday in the Welcome Center at 8:30 and 10 a.m.

—United Church of Christ of Robesonia, 301 W. —St. John's Reformed Church, 4001 Penn Ave., Sinking Spring, will hold a Family Fall Festival today at 3 p.m. on the church parking lot. In case of inclement weather, it will be in the Fellowship Hall. There will be autumn-inspired games and pumpkin carving. No costumes as it is a celebration of fall, not Halloween.

—St. John's Lutheran Church, 45 N. Reading Ave., Boyertown, will have a free drive-thru, take-out meal today from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. No registration necessary.

—St. John's Gernant's Church (A Federated Congregation), 13 Gernant's Church Road, Ontelaunee Township, will have a Carols and Scriptures service Sunday at 9:30 a.m. based on "The Sermon on the Mount." A fellowship social will be held after the service.

—A tractor-trailer from Latter-day Saints Charities carrying 17,000 pounds of wrapped and strapped bundles of men's, women's and children's clothing, along with bundles of coats and boxes of blankets, was delivered to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3344 Reading Crest Ave., Muhlenberg Township. Local charity partners such as the Hope Rescue Mission and New Journey were the recipients of this humanitarian relief.

—Betsy Majewski will be the guest preacher at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services on Sunday at Calvary United Church of Christ, 640 Centre Ave., Reading. Paola Loaiza will be the guest violinist.

—On Sunday at 9:05 a.m., Christ Episcopal Church, 435 Court St., Reading, will hold a forum led by Dr. Richard Androne titled "All the Company of Heaven: Halloween, All Saints, and All Souls." There will be a Blessing of the Costumes at 10; children can wear their costumes and have them blessed in preparation for a safe Halloween. Reformation Lutheran Church marks 75th anniversary

Reformation Lutheran Church, 3670 Perkiomen Ave., Exeter Township, is holding a 75th anniversary celebration on Sunday. With the theme of "Looking Back ... Moving Forward!," the congregation will have a festival worship service at 9:30 a.m. followed by a catered lunch in the parish hall.

Events of the day will include re-installation and ringing of a 19th century bell that was used in the congregation's first building in the 1940s and 1950s; performance of a commissioned anthem, composed by David Himes; and the release of a commemorative booklet that examines the history of the congregation. The bishop of the Northeastern Pennsylvania synod of the ELCA, Christopher DeForest, will be the guest preacher. A brass quartet, timpani and the church's vocal and handbell choirs will be directed by Dr. Heidi Rochlin, director of music. The Rev. Paul Metzloff, pastor, will preside.

The celebration will kick off a year of anniversary observances, which will include visits and performances from previous pastors and musicians, concerts and other events. The congregation is also beginning a new mental health and suicide prevention ministry as a part of its anniversary.
