Jets lose another linebacker as Brandon Copeland receives four-game suspension

The New York Jets are losing linebackers before the regular season even starts. Brandon Copeland became the latest member of the linebacking core to go down Wednesday. He received a four-game suspension for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.

Copeland’s suspension comes just days after the team lost linebacker Avery Williamson to a torn ACL.

The 28-year-old Copeland is not the only player on the team who will be suspended at the start of the season. Tight end Chris Herndon also received a four-game suspension from the NFL. Herndon was suspended under the league’s substance-abuse policy.

While Herndon should be back with the team for Week 5, things are murky for Copeland. Prior to the suspension, Copeland was considered to be on the roster bubble. Though the Jets are down two linebackers, missing four games could be the deciding factor when it comes to whether Copeland makes the team.
