Jessica Simpson reveals sexual abuse as a child, alcohol addiction in new memoir, 'Open Book'

Jessica Simpson reveals she was sexually abused as a child and later overcame alcohol and drug addictions in her upcoming memoir, "Open Book."

Detailed in an excerpt in People ahead of the book's Feb. 4 release, Simpson writes that the abuse began at a family friend's house when she was 6 and sharing a bed with the family's daughter.

“It would start with tickling my back and then go into things that were extremely uncomfortable...I wanted to tell my parents. I was the victim but somehow I felt in the wrong," she writes.

She writes that she revealed the abuse to her parents when she was 12, while they were in the car.

“I told you something was happening,” Simpson recalls her mother, Tina, yelling at her father, Joe.

“Dad kept his eye on the road and said nothing,” she writes. “We never stayed at my parents’ friends house again but we also didn’t talk about what I had said.”

Simpson also opens up about thow trauma from the abuse coupled with stress over her career led her to become dependent on alcohol and drugs.

"I was killing myself with all the drinking and pills," she writes, adding she's been sober since Nov. 2017 and that therapy helped her heal. "Giving up the alcohol was easy. I was mad at that bottle. At how it allowed me to stay complacent and numb."

Simpson announced on her 39th birthday in October that she was writing a memoir, covering everything from her marriage to "98 Degrees" alum Nick Lachey, to their wildly popular MTV series "Newlyweds," to the couple's eventual headline-grabbing divorce in 2006.

"I have been waiting for so long to share some exciting news," Simpson wrote on Instagram. "I will be releasing my first book on February 4th with @harpercollinsus. I have been working so hard on it - I have opened my heart up in a way I never have before and now I can’t wait to share it with the world."

In addition to her "Newlyweds" days, Simpson's memoir is also touches on her expanding $1 billion company, finding new love with former NFL player Eric Johnson and starting a family.

The couple, who tied the knot in July 2014, are parents to Birdie Mae, 10 months, daughter Maxwell Drew, 7, and son Ace Knute, 6.
