Jessica Simpson to Receive Footwear News Icon Award: 'It Feels Beautiful to Be Celebrated for Trusting My Voice'

Simpson will be honored at Footwear News’ 37th Annual Achievement Awards in New York City on Nov. 29

Jessica Simpson is stepping into her Icon era.

On Thursday, Footwear News announced that the singer and fashion mogul, 43, will be honored with the Icon Award at Footwear News’ 37th Annual Achievement Awards during the 2023 ceremony, which will take place at Cipriani South Street in New York City on Nov. 29.

“Jessica Simpson has defied the odds, becoming one of fashion’s longest-running success stories,” the press release said. Referring to Simpson's fashion line, The Jessica Simpson Collection, the release added that “her special blend of on-trend, accessible style has resonated with consumers of all ages since she founded her eponymous brand with mom, Tina, in 2005.”

In a statement shared exclusively with PEOPLE, Simpson said that she was “honored” to be receiving Footwear News’ Icon Award and that it was “beautiful to be celebrated for trusting my own voice.”

She went on to say what being an icon meant to her, explaining that it was someone who has a legacy that surpasses time and space.

“I am honored that my spirit has connected with people who need it in ways that are obvious and ways that are more subliminal,” Simpson continued. “The fact that Footwear News is bestowing that title on this gal from Texas helps to illuminate the path ahead.”

Per the press release, Michael Atmore, Editorial Director of Footwear News and Chief Brand Officer of Fairchild Media Group, praised Simpson’s journey from being a reality star to a successful entrepreneur. He added that Simpson has had a career of longevity.

Actress Storm Reid will also be honored with the Style Influencer of the Year Award by Footwear, as well as sneaker brand, Veja, which will receive the Sustainability Leadership Award.

Simpson’s Icon Award announcement comes after she was dressed to impress during a night out with some friends. On Saturday, she shared some snaps wearing a stylish red dress with black lace detail. "What’s yours will find you when you least expect it ✨," Simpson’s caption read at the time.

She also recently shared a sweet mother-daughter snap with her daughter, Maxwell,11. Simpson shares Maxwell, daughter Birdie Mae, 4, and son Ace, 9, with her husband, Eric Johnson, whom she married in 2014.
