Jessica Simpson recalls getting acting lessons from Chuck Norris as a child

Jessica Simpson joined Jimmy Kimmel Live Wednesday night to promote her new memoir, Open Book, and she revealed that as a child, her acting coach was none other than Chuck Norris. Simpson explained that she had just been passed up for a spot on The All New Mickey Mouse Club alongside Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears, and was told she needed acting lessons. So, being in Dallas at the time, Simpson explained that Norris was THE person to go to. And it didn’t take long for Norris to spot the problem.

“He told me I move my eyebrows too much,” Simpson said. “Yeah, and I had to do all of my lines with my eyebrows taped.”

Simpson explained that Norris didn’t do the taping himself, his person did it. And the Norris method for acting got even weirder from there, being that Simpson was about 12 years old at the time.

“He asked me who my favorite actor was and I thought, ‘Should I say Chuck Norris?’ Ya know?,” Simpson said. “And he told me to channel my inner Denzel Washington.”

Norris’s sage advice not only failed to get Simpson onto the show, but it had a lasting and devastating effect.

“It ruined every Denzel Washington movie for me,” Simpson said. “All I do is watch for his eyebrows. Like, every scene.”

Jimmy Kimmel Live airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on ABC.
