Jessica Simpson Feels Like She’s ‘Already Had Christmas’ After Her Kids Put Up Christmas Tree Early

The performer recently opened up about the love her kids have for the holidays

Jessica Simpson got an early start to Christmas!

Simpson attended the 2023 Footwear News Achievement Awards in New York City on Wednesday and spoke with Extra about how her kids rang in the holiday season with much anticipation.

"I feel like we've already had Christmas, like, my kids have, like, put their trees up last month. Right before I came here, we were finished decorating all the trees," she said, noting that there was still holiday decor being set up at her home.

"There's someone putting lights on the house right now. I'm going to come home; it's going to be like Griswald Christmas when I go home," she continued. "They're going to be so excited to show me 'cause they just love it. They love everything about the holidays."

The musician, 43, is a parent to son Ace Knute, 10, and daughters Birdie Mae, 4, and Maxwell Drew, 11, with her husband Eric Johnson.

She was honored with the Icon Award for her work on her eponymous brand, which was regarded as "one of fashion's longest-running success stories." Simpson shared how special it was to receive the recognition in a statement exclusively shared with PEOPLE.

"I am honored that my spirit has connected with people who need it in ways that are obvious and ways that are more subliminal. The fact that Footwear News is bestowing that title on this gal from Texas helps to illuminate the path ahead," she said.

Simpson previously opened up to PEOPLE about how her family "is all about the seasons."

"Our family traditions are really all about one thing — being together. We are all homebodies it turns out," she said.

Apart from preparing for the holidays, Simpson has been busy working on new music. She told PEOPLE on the 2023 Footwear News Achievement Awards red carpet that it made her have to spend time away from her kids and start splitting her time between L.A. and Nashville.

"They helped me find a house [in Nashville], we all moved there, they picked their rooms, that type of stuff, but they're in school, so I have two weeks [in Nashville], two weeks home," she said.
