Rumors about Jessica Simpson’s marriage to Eric Johnson began late last year when she was seen with a naked left finger and people started to get worried about the state of their union. It didn’t help that the 43-year-old singer also posted snapshots of herself without her significant piece of jewelry. What is going on with Simpson and Johnson?
Sources are spilling the tea to Life & Style and telling fans that while they’ve gone through their struggles, Simpson and Johnson are not heading for a split anytime soon. “When Jessica and Eric are fighting, the ring comes off,” the insider shared, noting that the lack of a wedding ring is intentional. “It makes her feel like a fraud wearing her ring if they’re not getting along.” The duo has sought therapy to work through their challenges and they believe that “couples counseling has really saved their marriage and taught them invaluable life lessons.”

The strain in their marriage is coming from two different sources — finances and the lack of time together. Simpson bought back her namesake brand, Jessica Simpson Collection, after the then-owner, Sequential, was going into bankruptcy. She decided to make the call to put her home up for collateral and sell her stock portfolio to save the company. Money was so tight that Simpson had to borrow money from her mother, Tina Simpson, per Bustle.
The “I Wanna Love You Forever” singer is also working on new music in Nashville, so she’s spending more time away from Johnson and their three kids, Maxi, 11, Ace, 10, and Birdie, 4. “Eric knows making music again has given Jess a renewed happiness,” the source added. “Sure, there are days he resents doing the heavy lifting when it comes to parenting, but he realizes this time will pass and sets up weekend trips to Nashville with the kids to break things up a little.”
Simpson and Johnson will be celebrating their 10th anniversary in July, but there’s no denying that they’ve been through a rough few years. “Issues come up — just this year they’ve gone through ups and downs and faced challenges — but they’re both dedicated to the relationship,” the insider said. They are showing a united front no matter what they are going through — Simpson and Johnson are in this together.
