Jessica Biel is sharing her parenting advice!

In preparation for the upcoming release of her new read, A Kids Book About Periods, which lands on shelves this spring, the Candy actress, 42, answered a few fan questions on social media Thursday.

“How do you talk to your sons about periods?” an anonymous user asked in her Instagram Story.

Biel shares sons Silas, 8, and Phineas, 3, with husband Justin Timberlake.

She responded to the inquiry in a selfie video, saying it was a question that she’s “still finding my way through.”

"Well, I don’t have all the answers, but my way is I just tell them the truth about what’s going on with me, and how I’m feeling,” the 7th Heaven alum said in the clip.

“I try to do it in a way that is giving them truthful, in a real, biological, anatomically correct information. You know? But also something that isn’t going to feel too overwhelming for them,” she continued.

Biel added that while she’s “taking it slow” with her boys, she’s also “telling them the truth.”

“I’m not hiding it from them, and I’m telling them the real words, and you know, giving them the real definitions of these terms and phrases, in and around reproductive health that can feel scary, and can feel comfortable to use, and I’m just telling it like it is,” the Primetime Emmy Award nominee concluded.

In another Instagram Story from Thursday, Biel also responded to a user who asked why she decided to write the book.

The actress recalled a time in her 30s when she was ready to start a family of her own “and I didn’t know all the things going on with my cycle, and I thought that was really crazy because I should know these things.”

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE published on March 7, Biel shared how she plans to use her book to de-stigmatize the topic for younger audiences.

“I’ve always felt strongly that we need to normalize the discussion around periods and as a parent, writing this book felt like an organic way to engage kids in the conversation from early on,” she told PEOPLE.

The education book was created in partnership with PERIOD., a nonprofit organization that strives to end “period poverty and stigma” through education and advocacy.
