Jessica Alba has an exciting new chapter coming up after announcing her plans to step down as chief creative officer of The Honest Company, the personal care brand she founded in 2011.

Alba, 42, revealed the news in an Instagram post, per Variety, shared on March 9, writing: “While there would never have been an easy time to make this decision, I know we have a leadership team in place with [CEO] Carla Vernón at the helm to advance our founding vision and strengthen Honest’s legacy as an industry change-maker.”

A statement from The Honest Company revealed that Alba would retain her place on the board of directors and would continue to “provide her support and leadership” while shifting “her creative energy to new endeavors.”

So, why is Jessica Alba leaving The Honest Company?

We’re guessing Alba’s surprise departure from her role at The Honest Company has something to do with her recently-launched production company, Lady Spitfire.

In February, Deadline revealed that Alba had partnered with producer Tracey Nyberg, whose work includes Lessons in Chemistry, Your Place or Mine and Ambulance. The duo established Lady Spitfire to work with diverse artists and creators and producing boundary-pushing, content, focusing on female driven, culturally diverse and Latino-inspired stories.

“I’m thrilled that in this stage of my life and career, I get to create and build, and Lady Spitfire is part of this next chapter,” Alba told Deadline. “Reimagining and redefining how women and minorities show up in the world through great stories is my passion. I believe that my children and the next generation shouldn’t have to face the same barriers as I have. Inspired by the heroes whose shoulders I humbly stand on, I feel it is my duty to make it easier for dreams to be realized and potential to be met for women and minorities, particularly those in my community.”

Under Lady Spitfire, Alba is set to star in and produce Netflix’s Trigger Warning later this year, a rare return to acting for the successful businesswoman.

Alba’s The Honest Company launched as a collection of household goods, diapers, and body care products before later expanding into skin care and beauty products, all with a focus on non-toxic living. The company was valued at $1.4 billion went it went public in 2021 but later dropped to roughly $550 million as of 2022.
