Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s modern family is about to grow by one very important (little) member! In a low-key and super-sweet moment on The Late Late Show with James Corden, the actor revealed that he is expecting his first child with husband Justin Mikita — and he is very much looking forward to “getting this show going.” He’s in luck, too. As he revealed to a gushing Corden, the couple’s firstborn will be here soon.

While an obviously huge announcement, Ferguson actually delivered the news in a low-key fashion. It all started when Corden pointed out that Charlie Hunnam, who was seated next to Ferguson, is turning 40. When asked about celebrating the milestone birthday, Hunnam admitted he was “cautiously excited” about what’s to come. With that, Corden turned to Ferguson, who’s 44, to explore whether entering his 40s had signaled any sort of psychological shift. Suffice it to say, his answer was yes.

“It’s when you finally become an adult, I feel. Like, ‘I need to start getting serious about things,'” he confessed, before casually adding, “Actually, this is something I haven’t even mentioned to anyone, if we could keep it between the three of us and you all, but I’m actually expecting a baby in July with my husband.”

Ferguson didn’t offer up too many other details. When asked by Corden what they were having, he did jokingly confirm that he and Mikita will be welcoming “a human.” And in all seriousness, he said they’re overjoyed. “I’m very excited, but it feels like I’m 44 now, let’s get this show going,” he said. “Tick tock.”

Of course, he and Mikita — who got hitched in July 2013 after three years together — will soon find out that time tends to move at warp speed when you become a parent. Before they know it, Ferguson will be sitting across from Corden again, but discussing things like when their baby started walking or what the little one’s first word was.

Just as Corden predicted, though, we suspect Ferguson and Mikita are going to make wonderful parents. From the sound of it, they may also be very busy parents. Shortly after their wedding, Ferguson quipped that he and Mikita want a “Kate Gosselin situation” once they start having kids. “At least eight, minimum!”
