A New Jersey couple rang in the new year by welcoming their twin boys, who have separate birthdays despite being born less than an hour apart.

Eve and Billy Humphrey, of Merchantville, welcomed sons Ezra and Ezekiel into the world just 40 minutes apart, according to a news release from Virtua Voorhees Hospital obtained by PEOPLE.

Ezra was born at 11:48 p.m. local time on New Year’s Eve, followed by Ezekiel at 12:28 a.m. on New Year’s Day.

“Our only hope was to have healthy baby boys,” Billy said, according to NJ.com. “So this is just another good thing for our family and we’re excited for this new adventure.”

Ezra and Ezekiel Humphrey were born at Virtua Voorhees Hospital on Dec. 31, 2023 and Jan. 1, 2024.

The Humphreys learned they were expecting twins in the spring of 2023, according to Good Morning America. The couple was initially “shocked” by the news but eventually grew excited about the expansion of their family.

Ezra and Ezekiel were not due until late January, ABC affiliate WABC-TV reported. But when Eve’s water broke on New Year’s Eve, she and Billy knew the time had come.

To make the occasion even more special, New Year’s Eve also happens to be Billy’s birthday,  according to the outlets.

Ezra was born weighing 6 lbs. and measuring 18 3/4 inches long, according to the hospital. Ezekiel was born at 4 lbs., 15 oz. and 17 1/4 inches long.

The twins happened to be born just days before their older brother Hezikiah’s birthday, as well. The toddler will celebrate his third birthday on Jan. 3.
