Jerry Seinfeld Spills On Ditched Plan For Chris Rock Oscars Slap Parody In 'Unfrosted'

Jerry Seinfeld says he wanted Chris Rock to appear in the movie “Unfrosted” for a parody of Will Smith’s infamous Oscars slap.
On Wednesday’s episode of the “Fly on the Wall” podcast, the sitcom legend said Rock could’ve hosted the Bowl & Spoon Awards in the new Netflix film, a fictional take on the creation of Pop-Tarts.
“We shot that right after the Will Smith slap, and I was going to have somebody come up on the stage and have Chris punch them out as they got there,” said the “Seinfeld” star, describing a scene that would’ve lampooned Smith slapping Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards.
Seinfeld added that Rock “wasn’t up to perform,” however, as he was still a “little shook” from the event.
Instead, Cedric the Entertainer ended up playing the Bowl & Spoon Awards host, without the slap spoof.
Though Rock didn’t appear in Seinfeld’s directorial debut, he did address the Oscars slap in a recent comedy special on Netflix.
“People are like, ‘Did it hurt?’ It still hurts! I’ve got ‘Summertime’ ringing in my ears,” Rock quipped in “Selective Outrage,” released early last year.
Seinfeld asked “Fly on the Wall” hosts Dana Carvey and David Spade if they thought the slap parody would’ve been funny in the Bowl & Spoon Awards scene.
“Without the Will Smith thing, I think it’s funny,” Carvey said. “There’s still kind of a residual darkness around that moment.”
“Isn’t that what we’re attracted to more than anything? Residual darkness,” Seinfeld replied. “I don’t know if it would have worked, but it was an idea.”
