To know Tyler, the Creator is to also know his kind of humor.

In a premiere episode of the Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show, the comedian confronted the OFWGKTA trendsetter about brutally rejecting his romantic feelings for him in 2021. At the time, Tyler responded by calling him out his name, to which they discussed in person.

“You called me a stupid bi**h,” Carmichael recalled to which Tyler hysterically laughed and said, “Yeah I did.” Speaking to why he dismissed the comedian’s feelings, he added, “I think I just like, brushed it off. Getting news like that and then avoiding it is a way to avoid change.”

According to Carmichael, he not only confessed his feelings and was shot down back then, but also asked the 33-year-old to be his date at the Emmy Awards, which Tyler declined.

Tyler mentioned that Carmichael’s advances at the time was “a lot to download” and even currently, he still “doesn’t know how to respond.” He continued, “I didn’t think brushing that off and continuing regularly would be such a dent. I don’t know.”

The Call Me If You Get Lost rapper also inquired, “what would have been the ideal response” to Carmichael’s confession, to which the 36-year-old suggested a conversation like the one they were currently having.

However, Tyler denied having the same feelings for the comedian, considering him “like a brother” and “truly family.” In the end, the Camp Flog Gnaw creator awkwardly proceeded to eat his food that he ordered, while also sharing some with Carmichael.

Despite the awkward exchange, Tyler, the Creator and Jerrod Carmichael have been friends for some time now, as the comedian once conducted a special conversation with the rapper for his 2017 album Flower Boy.

He also narrated Tyler’s 2019 album Igor.

According to Variety, the Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show is about his coming out and “aims to use hem to ease into topics that make him deeply uncomfortable.”

It adds that the show “blurs the lines between entertainment and his actual life,” with “confessional comedy sets filmed in the same style as Rothaniel, framing a seated Carmichael in close-up as he engages the audience in conversational back-and-forths.”
