Veteran musician and record executive Jermaine Dupri is slated to serve as the DJ for Variety’s first-ever Grammy cover party, presented by TikTok, in Los Angeles.

The invite-only event, taking place on Feb. 1, will also honor Victoria Monét, who recently featured as the cover star for Variety’s Jan. 31 issue. Throughout his career, Dupri has helped define the shape of popular music as an entrepreneur, artist, producer and label head. He’s crafted hits as a solo artist as well as through his work for other artists including Mariah Carey, Usher and Nelly, among many others.

Monét, who will receive a special award during the evening, is up for seven Grammys including best new artist and record of the year for “On My Mama” after releasing her breakthrough debut album “Jaguar II” in August. She was previously honored with Variety’s Triple Threat award at the 2023 Hitmakers event, which also recognized SZA, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina Carpenter and more.

Variety’s Grammy party will also feature an array of guests including breakthrough talent, executives, agents, industry leaders and, of course, Grammy nominees.

“We are so excited to band together with Variety in honoring the multi-talented singer-songwriter Victoria Monét ahead of her well-deserved seven nominations at this year’s Grammy Awards,” said Ole Obermann, Global Head of Music Business Development, TikTok. “From the #OnMyMamaChallenge to Dua Lipa and Billie Eilish feeding Barbie mania to GRWM videos soundtracked by SZA’s ‘Kill Bill,’ the TikTok community’s power to fuel certified hits and turn songs into culture-defining trends is on full display as we remain the go-to place for music discovery.”

Jem Aswad, Variety‘s executive editor of music, observed that “Variety’s music team has been Victoria fans since she dropped her first EP almost 10 years ago, and we’re so proud and pleased that she’ll be with us and TikTok to celebrate her amazing and well-earned Grammy moment.”
