Jeremy Renner unpacks his 'road to recovery' after snowplow accident: 'There was a lot for me to fight for'

The "Mayor of Kingstown" actor also revealed that he feels 'strong enough' to get back to work in the next week.
Jeremy Renner is looking ahead to 2024, even as he reflects on the traumatic snowplow incident that nearly took his life one year ago.
During an appearance on CNN's New Year's Eve broadcast, the actor discussed his long road to recovery — and confirmed that he is finally due back on the set of his Paramount+ crime drama, Mayor of Kingstown.
"I think I’m ready,” he told hosts Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen. “I think I’m strong enough. We’ll see. I mean, I literally go back in a week."

Jeremy RennerThe news comes a full calendar year after Renner was crushed by his snowplow last New Year's Day while trying to divert the vehicle from his nephew on his property in Nevada. The MCU actor was airlifted to a hospital after the accident, where they discovered he had suffered blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries. He was discharged after two weeks and revealed on social media that he broke more than 30 bones.
Reflecting on the incident with Cohen and Cooper, Renner explained that his determination to get better for his loved ones got him through the difficult recovery process.
"I'm just so blessed that I had so many things to live for,” he said. “I have a giant family. I have a 10-year-old daughter. I would've disappointed and really messed up a lot of people's lives if I would've passed, and so there's a lot for me to get better for.”
Joking that he is also a “pretty stubborn S.O.B.," the Marvel star continued, "There was a lot for me to fight for, and recovery was just a one-way road in my mind. My recovery became relief for me, because I knew I could give relief to my family, my daughter and to all those that I really affected.”
Renner also pointed to his nephew, who witnessed the incident, adding, “I gave him images that he can never unsee, but I knew that my healing would be healing for him."
He continued, “With that, I never thought about my own physical ailments, my own pain, or my own anguish. I had so many things to fight for, so the one-way road of recovery was my mental attitude, and that attitude was always to get better. There's no option other than that. And I still work at every part, every day, and thank God that I have a lot to fight for."
Last week, Renner signaled his return to TV by sharing an Instagram Story from actress Emma Laird, one of his Mayor of Kingstown costars. The third season of the Taylor Sheridan-created show isn’t the only project keeping Renner busy. In October he announced the Jan. 19 release of a musical diary, Love and Titanium, to commemorate the last year of his life.
Now, Renner is kicking off the new year with the release of the EP’s first single, “Wait,” dedicated to his daughter. In an emotional Instagram post, he named her the #1 reason for his recovery.
“I asked her to ‘wait for me’ when I first saw her January 14 as I arrived home,” Renner wrote. “As I got better, she got better, less afraid. There is simply no better motivator to recover than to heal your family and friends…. With gratitude always, thank you all for your love and support this last full year. I needed every ounce of goodwill and prayer.”
