Just over a year after a life-threatening snowplow accident landed Jeremy Renner in an ICU with more than 30 broken bones, the actor has resumed his acting career.

In an Instagram post shared on Jan. 10, Renner said he was back on set filming for the third season of “Mayor of Kingstown,” a thriller about the dynamics of a prison system in the fictional town of Kingstown, Michigan.

“Day one on set … nervous today,” Renner shared. “Hope this works out that I can ACTUALLY pull this off for our production and more importantly the fans @mayorofkingstown @paramountplus.”

The official Instagram page for “Mayor of Kingstown” also shared a post celebrating Renner’s return: “The mayor is back,” reads a promotional photo. “Season 3 production has begun.”

Renner’s return to acting comes just over a year after he was crushed by a 14,000-pound snowplow near his home in Reno, Nevada. In a recent reflection, he said he feels “pretty blessed” and has “a lot to celebrate.”

“I have a giant family and a 10-year-old daughter,” the Marvel actor said during an appearance on CNN’s “New Year’s Eve Live” with Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen, per USA Today. “I would have disappointed and really messed up a lot of people’s lives if I had passed. So there’s a lot for me to get better for. I’m also pretty stubborn and there’s a lot for me to fight for.”

Throughout his recovery, Renner has continually updated fans on his progress — and provided glimpses of what’s next in his career.

Here’s a look at some updates.

What is Jeremy Renner up to?

In addition to his acting return, the 53-year-old “Avengers” star has also resumed his music career amid his recovery. Music, he has said, was his first love outside of family. Acting came later.

“A collection of music we wrote about different milestones in my journey of recovery since Jan. 1 this year,” Renner wrote in an October Instagram post. “‘Love and Titanium’ has been painful, deeply healing, and ultimately cathartic for me to create. I hope I get the courage to share with you all.”

The album title, “Love and Titanium,” refers to a quote Renner gave during an interview with Diane Sawyer back in April — his first televised interview since the accident.

“I chose to survive,” Renner told Sawyer, per Deseret News. “I’ve lost a lot of flesh and bone in this experience, but I’ve been refueled and refilled with love and titanium.”

“Love and Titanium” comes out Jan. 19. On Jan. 1 — the 1-year anniversary of his near-fatal accident — Renner released the song, “Wait,” which is dedicated to his daughter, Ava.

In the Jan. 1 Instagram post, the actor said his daughter was the No. 1 reason for his recovery.

“I asked her to ‘wait for me’ when I first saw her January 14 as I arrived home. As I got better, she got better, less afraid,” he wrote. “There is simply no better motivator to recover than to heal your family and friends…. With gratitude always, thank you all for your love and support this last full year. I needed every ounce of goodwill and prayer.”

How is Jeremy Renner doing?

Renner has been open about his recovery — and how it has changed his perspective.

“I just feel very blessed and very lucky to be upright and walk around and to live life,” Renner said in an interview with CNN. “I’m very, very clear. My life is really lean, if that makes sense. There’s no fat in my life anymore. I don’t have time for that. So, there’s something really beautiful about having that superpower.”

In an Instagram post shared last September, Renner posted a video of one of his workouts that has been helping to restore his strength.

“Positive daily routines have been a solid foundation in my recovery. Build your mind, the body will follow,” Renner wrote in the post. “If you’re struggling, just know your attitude will dictate every waking moment moving forward …. Let go of the past, and move with positive intention and you will be provided 🙏🏼. I promise 🙏🏼.”

At the 10-month mark of his recovery, Renner shared a video that showed him skipping down his inclined driveway and running back up it, the Deseret News reported. Renner has also shared with his fans that he undergoes hyperbaric oxygen therapy twice a day, per People.

Last July, Renner was seen walking on his own — without the cane he’s used since the accident — at actress Kate Beckinale’s 50th birthday party, People reported.

Renner had used the cane in public over the previous months, including at the premiere of his Disney+ show “Rennervations” last April and an appearance that same month on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!

During that interview with Kimmel, Renner spent most of the time cracking jokes and focusing on the positive — his family, friends and other blessings that have emerged from the accident. He said his typically busy schedule is wide open now, and that he was even able to kick his smoking habit to the curb.

“The easiest way to quit smoking — because I almost killed myself I didn’t even think about smoking. It was easy peasy!” he joked, per Deseret News.

At one point during the interview, Kimmel shared a recent video of Renner on a motorized scooter jamming out to Prince at Six Flags.

“You’re making a mockery of this injury, you really are,” Kimmel laughed.

“I promise you I’m in a ton of pain,” Renner responded.

Renner has said his new show “Rennervations,” which shows the actor repurposing decommissioned government vehicles for communities in need, was a “driving force” in his recovery, the Deseret News previously reported.

“This show set the milestone for me to to get better, to make sure that all of our hard work wasn’t for nothing,” Renner said at the premiere screening of the show in April, per USA Today. “There was no alternative. So for me, it was easy. There was somewhere to go, somewhere to point, and I had a lot of love.”
