Jeremy Irons Talks About Ben Affleck's Batman Movie

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice certainly had its problems, but most would agree that the parts of it that worked included Jeremy Irons’s stellar debut as Alfred Pennyworth. The Oscar winner had an interview with Variety and talked about his comic-book role.

Asked whether he would have more to do in Justice League, he replied, “In the Justice League we have seven major lead characters, and I’m the butler to one of them. It’s clear I will not be dominating that film.” But if you’re itching for more Irons, fear not. He teased, “Ben’s going to make a Batman film next summer. He promises me there’s going to be a bit more of Alfred in that.”

When Variety noted that Alfred seems to be more a part of the action than in other Batman movies, Irons talked about how he drew inspiration from an evening with the late Paul Getty.

“We drove up to his lovely house. A very nice gentleman opened up the car door. Then another very nice gentleman took the car and parked it somewhere. Another nice gentleman took my coat. And then another nice gentleman gave me a glass of champagne. And all those nice gentlemen were [Special Air Service]. I thought, that’s Alfred. He’s a man who will take care of his boss, whether he’s making coffee or pouring champagne or flying his airplane.”
