Jeopardy! UK sees the classic American game show hopping across the pond for a British edition fronted by a very famous former quizmaster.

The American classic previously appeared on UK screens in the 1980s, but ITV confirmed that they were working on a reboot in 2023, with Stephen Fry set to host, and it's now airing through the week!

Talking about his new role, Fry said: "In the United States, Jeopardy! is a phenomenon like no other. Whenever I’m in America, I do my damnedest to catch it every weekday. The idea of hosting it here in the UK makes me dizzy with delight.

"Such a dedicated quizzing nation as ours will, I hope, welcome this uniquely beguiling and endlessly rewarding game," he added.

Whilst this series might bring the quiz show format to plenty of new viewers, there's something for longtime Jeopardy! fans to look forward to, too. ITV has teased that this version of the show will allow participants to compete in an extra round, meaning the stakes are even higher than ever.

Here's what you need to know about Jeopardy! UK...

Jeopardy! UK release date: When does Jeopardy! UK start?

Jeopardy! UK launched on ITV1 and ITVX on New Year's Day (Monday, January 1, 2024) at 5.45 pm. New episodes of the series are airing weekdays at 4 pm in the same places.

Asked why he thought now was the right time to bring the series back, Fry said: “It feels right” is probably the best I can suggest. The British addiction to quizzing is on a par with our addiction to ‘whodunnits’, to great detective series. Our delight in quizzing is greater now than it’s ever been.

"There are so many pub quizzes and quizzing leagues around Britain and so many professional quizzers. We enjoy shows that don’t shy away from fairly tough questions and areas of knowledge. We love to watch people who are good at something."

How many episodes of Jeopardy! UK will there be?

Jeopardy! UK was commissioned for a 20-episode run, with each episode lasting around an hour.

How does Jeopardy! work?

Jeopardy! is a long-running general knowledge quiz show that flips the traditional question-and-answer format on its head.

Whilst it's still a trivia-based show, Jeopardy! instead sees contestants being offered several clues that point the players to a concept, a place, or a thing. To "answer" correctly, contestants have to figure out what the thing in question is, and then give the matching question that goes with the clue. So, for example, if the clue was "King Charles III", they might say "who is the current king of the UK?"

ITV Head of Entertainment, Katie Rawcliffe, is looking forward to bringing the format for the first time in decades. She said: "Bringing Jeopardy! to a brand new audience as part of our weekday schedule is exciting. There is no one better to host this classic gameshow than Stephen, bringing knowledge and entertainment to all of our viewers."

The UK edition of the series will function very similarly; the set design and colors are all the same, with the old-style font in play, too. The main difference here is that Jeopardy! UK features an additional round.

And since the total jackpot for the show continues to build as long as the champion stays in play, they could theoretically walk away with hundreds of thousands of pounds - or more!

Is there a Jeopardy! UK trailer?

Yes! ITV released a trailer for the new quiz series just before the show arrived. It shows off Stephen's rapport and on-set banter with some of the competitors, and you can find it below:
