'Jeopardy!' host Alex Trebek has a new beard, and fans are stumped as to whether it's 'ridiculous' or 'rugged'

We’ll take Facial Hair for $800, Alex.

The 35th season of Jeopardy! is upon us, and host Alex Trebek is showing off a bold new look to celebrate. The 78-year-old game show legend grew a beard — and he wants viewers to weigh in on the facial fuzz.

So far, the reaction has been positive. An Instagram Stories poll conducted by Jeopardy! shows the pro-beard platform getting 70 percent of votes, with some comparing the hirsute look to Sean Connery.

“I like it!” a fan wrote. “I say keep both the beard and moustache! Makes you even more distinguished and rugged!”

“Keep the beard, please!” another commenter agreed. “It makes you look very distinguished, Alex.”

“Now if we can get [Wheel of Fortune host] Pat Sajak to grow one, it would be awesome!” read another comment.

Alas, every party has a pooper. Some commenters strongly disapproved of the look.

“Do not care for facial hair,” one complained. “Yours looks ridiculous!!! Makes you look so much older and to compare it to Sean Connery is an insult to him. I love Jeopardy! but the beard is a deal-breaker. Would rather watch HGTV. SHAVE!!!!”

“Much more handsome without beard,” added a viewer. “It ages you! SHAVE!”

It’s not the first time Trebek has experimented with his facial hair. The Canada-born host was renowned for his thick mustache before shaving it off in 2001. He grew it back in 2014 ahead of the show’s 31st season, but the clean-shaven style eventually returned.
