'Jeopardy!' fans love new guest host David Faber despite not knowing who he is

Kicking off his week as Jeopardy!’s latest guest host on Monday, was CNBC’s David Faber. And even though he spends his time way up the dial as host of the morning talk show, Squawk on the Street, and he's not as well known as some of the other guest hosts, viewers on social media loved him. One person on Twitter said, “He's actually doing the best job yet. Wow. I don't even know who he is.”

But Faber does bring a little bit of past experience to his week-long stint as host, and that’s because he actually competed in the Jeopardy! Power Players Tournament back in 2012, defeating Kareem Abdul jabbar and Fox News’ Dana Perino. He touched on that experience during his intro, and how he was able to learn up close from the man whose shoes everyone is trying to fill.

“I am so excited to be here. As a financial journalist, I live in a world of facts, and what I love is that that's what Jeopardy! is all about,” Faber said. “Having also played as a contestant with Alex (Trebek), I understand just how important it was to him that the players were able to perform at their very best. And I hope and intend to honor that standard as a guest host this week.”

JOHNNY GILBERT: David Faber!

DAVID FABER: Thank you, Johnny Gilbert. And welcome, everybody. I am so excited to be here. As a financial journalist, I live in a world of facts and what I love is that that's what jeopardy is all about.

KYLIE MAR: It's a new week and another new guest host on Jeopardy. And this time it's David Faber, the host of CNBC's morning talk show, Squawk on the Street. But he does bring some past experience since he actually competed in a Jeopardy Power Players tournament back in 2012, defeating Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Fox News's Dana Perino. And he was able to learn up-close from the man whose shoes everyone is trying to fill.

DAVID FABER: Having also played as a contestant with Alex, I understand just how important it was to him that the players were able to perform at their very best, and I hope and intend to honor that standard as a guest host this week.

KYLIE MAR: Despite doing his thing way up the dial in the cable news channels and not being as well known as some of the other guest hosts, viewers loved him, saying things like, who is the David Faber guy? I already like him for the job. And, he's actually doing the best job yet. Wow! I don't even know who he is. Plus, he had no problem keeping up with the current champ, Matt Amodio, and, as we've talked about on this show, his quirks.

MATT AMODIO: Instrument 16.

DAVID FABER: Drummer on Come as You Are, 1991? Matt?

MATT AMODIO: What's Grohl?

DAVID FABER: Yep.

KYLIE MAR: And even though it was only night one for Faber, viewers think he has already found his groove with comments like, just finished watching Jeopardy. Very impressed with David Faber. His first day and he was smooth and professional. And, great first show, David Faber. Huge jeopardy fan here and I'm looking forward to the rest of your week.

DAVID FABER: We're going to be back tomorrow, and we certainly hope to see you then.
