The geniuses behind Jeopardy! promised there would be an announcement about the new permanent host “very, very soon.” Now, the quiz show might be delivering this highly anticipated news in the next few days.

On July 11, Jeopardy!’s official Twitter posted a video revealing that the trivia show is welcoming back its live audience for season 39. As folks may know, Jeopardy! stopped filming in a studio with fans in March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Now, more than two years later, viewers will have a chance to return to Alex Trebek Stage for new episodes with perhaps the new permanent host at the podium.

At the moment, it looks like tickets for the upcoming season have already sold out. But this announcement could signal that an even bigger one is on the way — the name of the permanent host. To put things into perspective, season 38 is scheduled to end on July 29. Then, Jeopardy! season 39 will premiere on September 12. In other words, there’s a really good chance that season 39 episodes will be led by the new permanent host and that those in attendance will be the first to see them in action.

In the clip above that Jeopardy! shared, current co-hosts Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings can be heard mentioning Jeopardy! champions Matt Amodio and Amy Schneider. “It’s not the same without you. Welcome back,” a message reads.

Among those excited about Jeopardy!’s next chapter is Ken, who celebrated the news on his Twitter. “This is very exciting,” he wrote. He later added in another tweet: “Nobody would be more pleased about this than Alex himself. He was a natural showman (as anyone who ever saw a Jeopardy! taping can attest) and was never quite as happy doing the audience-less shows of the pandemic era. We’re back, Alex! 💙.”

Reacting to the show’s announcement, Jeopardy! fans took to Instagram to share their excitement. “So there’s finally an audience. Looking forward!” one person wrote in the comments section. “YAY!!” another added. “That’s wonderful news,” a different fan said.

In case you missed out on the first batch of Jeopardy! tickets, more could become available later on. According to the website, the first day of filming for season 39 will be on August 2, followed by August 8, August 9 and August 10. Per numerous reports, the quiz show films a total of five episodes per day, so this would just be the beginning of the latest installment.

There’s no doubt that the demand for tickets will go through the roof when Ken, Mayim or even Buzzy Cohen are revealed as the new permanent host. We'll probably know something soon!
