'Jeopardy!' fans go nuts over 'Boaty McBoatface' category

“Boaty McBoatface” was a category on Jeopardy! Thursday. And judging from the reactions on Twitter, fans couldn’t have been happier.

You may recall the Natural Environment Research Council held an online poll to name its new $287 million research vessel. And unfortunately for them, the people’s choice was a hilarious one, Boaty McBoatface.

Despite Boaty McBoatface winning the popular vote on the poll, the ship was ultimately named the R.R.S. Sir David Attenborough. However, NERC did compromise and name the ship’s autonomous submersible Boaty McBoatface.

The category also appeared to be quite a challenge for the contestants, who only managed to answer two of the four clues correctly.

While a few fans grumbled about the childish category, most fans on Twitter seemed to love it. Maybe this will encourage the Jeopardy! writers to use more social categories, like “Cash Me Outside” for example?
